The Camaro or the Wedding Reception? The Camaro Mom’s Story

In June 1967, proud new Camaro owner Diane Neu went to great lengths to make sure her friends had a good first impression of her car.

Unfortunately, she was on the way to a friend’s wedding and got caught up in a major road construction mess, which covered the Camaro with thick yellow dust and mud.

Arriving for the wedding, Diane parked the car three blocks away from the church. According to Diane, she walked that far in high heels “because I didn’t want my friends’ first vision of my new car to be clouded by its mess.”

After the wedding, Diane didn’t just hop into her muddy Camaro and head to the reception. Instead, she found the nearest car wash, and took the time — still wearing her dress and high heels, by the way — to clean her beloved Camaro.

The story ends well, even though Diane got lost on the way to the reception.

“I arrived late to the reception,” she said, “but at least the car looked good!”

The gleaming Camaro made a great impression — most of all on Diane. She owned and loved it until 1980. But the story doesn’t end there, nor does Diane’s love for the Camaro. She now owns a ‘68 convertible almost the same color and with the same 250 inline 6 her original Camaro did. She loves it as much as the original.

It’s her love for the classic Camaro that earned Diane the nickname “The Camaro Mom.” Funny what love makes people do.
