What do GM manufacturing engineers do when they need a break from the job?

A lot of work is required to build the plants that build GM vehicles. At times, the manufacturing engineering tasks and meetings can be overwhelming. It’s really not that glamorous as we work toward completing the body assembly tools for a new product launch. But we look ahead and know why we build the best assembly plants that we can: great cars and trucks!
So what do you do to take a break in the middle of a long manufacturing engineering meeting?
Hold an employee car show! It is true that our business contains a significant share of certified “car nuts.”

When the family asks why you are driving your special vehicle to work, the junior family members sometimes get jealous. To keep everyone happy, the “junior car nuts” are also invited to show off their wheels. Maybe the “car nut” gene is hereditary.
The “gotta have” vehicles that GM is producing can only come from passionate engineers.
The manufacturing engineering team shown in these photos do have the passion… but they were a little late getting back into their engineering meeting.

A lot of credit is deserved for these engineers! Their job can be a thankless one often enough. I am happy to know they are “car nuts”, because that determines a good part of what will come out of the factory.
