The Hannity Debate

Editor’s note: A recent GM promotion on Sean Hannity’s radio program generated quite a bit of interest in the Internet community. While there has been an overwhelming positive response to this promotion, a few others have raised a concern. This is the response we posted on the web site that first raised the issue:

Okay, you have our attention!

Since the posting on your site about the Sean Hannity show, we have received hundreds of emails, phone calls, etc., with your opinions.

To clarify, we didn’t hire Mr. Hannity as a spokesperson and he is not receiving compensation from GM for thispromotion. What we are doing is running a promotion on his show where Mr. Hannity is featuring three of
our newest products every week and listeners can register to win their choice of the three vehicles.

As the head of Sales and Marketing for GM, my job is not to create political controversy but preferably to create interest in our world-class lineup of vehicles. Looks like we are doing a bit of both with this promotion.

GM is the biggest advertiser in America and to tell our story we advertise across a tremendously wide array of media trying to connect with all Americans irrespective of ethnic, religious or political affiliations. We just want folks to experience our products.

We want to reach you on the shows you listen to. Below is my email address. Please let me know the shows where you would like to hear or see our advertising — perhaps even a similar promotion to the one
currently being run on Hannity. We may already be on many of the programs that you enjoy. If not, we will sure look at them. Also, if you are interested in hearing more about any of our new products or our business turnaround, we will be happy to address that as well.

I appreciate your views and I welcome your suggestions.

Ironic is’nt it that GM’s bread is buttered by LABOR.
This antiquated Sloanian image of GM is right up the allys of anti-worker rightwing extremists, and anti-freedom leftwing extrimists: alike, both want GM to fail so the price of their Toyota stock can peak. Bush and Rumsfeld are going to JAIL! America is getting fed up with waiting for the appocolipse, soon we’ll turn to hedonism and self gratification, read sportscars; musclecars, make sure GM’s image isn’t one of a paria! Dissosiate with famaly values, America will in about 2 years, you’ll see, You guys have got to be seen as the proveayers of AMERICAN FREEDOM MACHINES much like HARELY DAVIDSON.
Camaro is a BADASS’s car not one for lemming like moral idealogs. Cadillacs are the cars of the Blues, Motown, and Hip hop, not the moneyed aristocracy, who slavishly woship the germans and their phony notion of pure blood.
GM is as American as the boston tea party, GM is as American as the Civil rights movement.
Like it or not MR LeNEVE your charge is one of the most proletariat and leftwing organisations left in this country. Like it or not you’ve got to “Sell it like it is!” It’s good stuff realy, cars working people can afford to service. The union forcing dignified levels of wage and benifits. The Multi-Vailent forces of democracy just like the framers of our constitution intended. “Sell it like it is!” It’s good stuff!

I just wanted to say that I’m proud to be an american, and am greatful to purchase American Made cars. I teel that the hybrids are misrepresented, and are more of a pollutant on our environment than gas, or desiel cars do. Thanks for giving us that opportunity to buy American, and keep Americans working.

    Don Ramsey

    Dear Mark Laneve,
I was an exclusive GM owner for over 40 years; I was what one might call a “blue dog” GM owner. GM could shove anything at me (including the blue dog that I owned) and I loved it. No more! Unfortunately, after being cheated by GM repeatedly with poor engineering design, warranties that never worked, designed obsolescence, repeated failures of everything imaginable and shoddy (to be kind) workmanship, I can say that under no circumstance would I ever again buy anything sold by GM!
As far as I’m concerned not only can GM go out of business, GM can go to Hell!
    Very Sincerely,
Don Ramsey (the proud new owner of everything Toyota)
