Last Friday at midnight, seven student teams emerged from the 2007 Chevy Aveo sedan they had lived in all week, leaving only for classes and periodic “bio breaks” over the course of five days.
The two-person team of Anna Grigoryan and Dolce Wang from the University of Southern California claimed victory by amassing more votes than their competitors from Boston University, the University of Florida, Howard University, Michigan State University, Northwestern University and Texas Christian University. Anna and Dolce each won a new 2007 Chevy Aveo sedan — and they won one for USC as well.
Webcams mounted inside each car, as well as external video cameras, captured the students’ creativity and expressiveness in their drive to “live large.” After moving into their “homes” away from home for the week, the students adapted their schedules to their new surroundings, where they got haircuts, held parties, hosted gubernatorial candidates and even managed to get some studying in. Daily required challenges, such as creating a personal campaign video and conducting a charitable food drive, pitted each team against the others in quests for rewards like a catered meal or an in-car massage. Photos and video highlights of each team’s days — including some of their special visitors — can be seen at AveoLivinLarge.com.
In addition, the students blogged regularly to solicit votes, banter with the other teams and thank supporters. Thoughts were chronicled, songs were created, and even proposals to further relationships were advanced! Read all about it on the site.
Thanks to all of the students who participated in the competition and to all those who helped them “live large.”
