A Front-Row Seat

Having grown up in the Detroit area, as well as being a current resident, I’m no stranger to the North American International Auto Show. I’ve attended the show as a general public “spectator,” and ever since I can remember, my dad has been a part of the production crew that helps make the show possible. But I’ve never had the chance to attend a vehicle reveal for the news media from any of the companies represented, let alone the world’s largest automaker.
On the morning of Jan. 8, I found myself down in front of the GM presentation stage for the reveal of the brand-new Cadillac CTS during press days. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I saw a group of GM employees, responsible on all different levels for the creation of the redesigned CTS, dressed in black off to the side. When a string quartet took the stage, my curiosity grew even more, and by the time Nuttin’ But Stringz began playing, I knew I wouldn’t be let down.
And I definitely wasn’t.
N.B.S.’ Damien and Tourie were simply amazing, and the personal accounts from the GM employees dressed in black on what it took to make the CTS possible gave not only the car but the entire reveal a very human feel. You weren’t just seeing a well-polished presentation, you were seeing countless hours of hard work finally coming to fruition.
While the new-product reveals were reserved for press days, make sure to check out the CTS and all of the GM vehicles on display during the final days of the NAIAS if you’re in the area this weekend. I promise you won’t be let down.

VIP status all the way! I’m glad that you got to be a part of press day (and incredibly jealous).
JenParuch
I can’t make it down this year, but this makes me feel like I still got an inside peak. Thanks!!
Sarah
That vehicle reveal sounds incredible. I went on one of the last days of the show, and getting near any of the luxury cars was quite difficult.
Mike Graf
I will buy one. Please keep the info coming.
Reynir Gunnel
Bloody marvelous idea,
can´t wait to get my hands on it. Hopefully there are models with more interior space on the drawing boards.
chris provencial
i just converted to a pontiac from years of toyota and nissan purchases. i really am proud to drive my pontiac and convinced my sis in law to buy a g6 which she loves. great ideas like the volt will keep me buying gm from now on.
Ray Hereford
I love the concept. I cannot wait until this car is on the market. Will they be priced similarly to the Prius?
Mark Higgins
This is exactly the direction the auto industry should be moving towards. I sincerely hope GM is able to follow through soon!
dennis l
when GM shuttered the EV1 years ago, it said that the thousands of people on waiting lists only translated to 50 buyers. Its time to put up or shut up. We already own a Prius that i’ve tweaked to run on electric only for up to 3 miles. You build this car, I’ll write you a check right now. I’m a proud Corvette wnd Chevy G10 owner–i’d be very proud to drive this car, and proud that GM came back to its senses after all these years.
Rob
I’m very excited to drive an electric car that looks so good.
Diana
Wow, this electric car is beautiful. Myhusband and I would love to own and drive one. We stand behind GM.
MIKE HOGAN
I CANT WAIT IT LOOKS AND SOUNDS INCREDIBLE
Joseph Ellin
Thanks to GM for some very advanced thinking. Now build the Volt before Toyota does .Energy independence for America is true patriotism. Clean air, unlimited transportation,no war needed.
Alicia Dorset
Thanks for the feedback! Not sure if everyone has seen this already, but there’s a lot of interesting Volt coverage over on FastLane:

Introducing the Volt

This car could raise GM in one single swoop out of the slum of lost reputation and inferiority to the Toyota and Honda brands. The public would praise them, interest groups would swarm in mass approval and sales would rocket (not immediately of course but It would catch on so fast that OPEC would have nightmares). And I would buy one as soon as possible. And I would push my family of 45 to all do the same.
nick melnik
I will buy one.. im from toronto ontario Canada.
Horvy
I’m from Canada & I would buy one!
Mike
Sounds and looks great,
hopefully it will be made for consumers to purchase. Hopefully they’ll be sent to Canada also.
Sharon
A step in the right direction, if it’s marketed fairly and honestly. Wouldn’t it just be easier
and even more environmentally friendly to start producing the EV1 again? Beggers can’t be
choosers, though.
Can’t wait to see it actually hit the market!
Marsha Brown
Monty and I were about to buy a new Prius, but now I think we’ll wait for the Volt. Very exciting! Can’t wait for it to be available.
http://www.montyandmarsha.com
Tony Hernandez
WOW! Forget the prius, if GM can
get this concept on the road I, and many others, will buy this car. Please release this car soon. Do it for our planet!
Eastern
Man,
first time I heard of Volt, it’s just amazing. I heard the news that GM once finalized Electric vehicle way before other companies, but unfortunately it wasn’t released to public due to gasoline giant’s pressure.
Now, this could be the solution.
With more info of safety and space, GM can be sure that I will be driving Volt once it comes out.
Patrick
I will buy one today if GM would allow the public to pre order before production starts. The egine should be a 3 cyclinder diesel it would get better MPG and give you at least 250k before a rebuild. This concept would be similar to the diesel electric drilling rigs that have been around for almost 40 years. The Detroit Desiel engine was the best in the market place. Thanks
Dave
Please start producing the Volt immediately. I just bought a new Passat but I’d ditch it in a heartbeat for one of these. And I know I wouldn’t be the only one!
Adrian
I’ll buy one in a heart beat! I was saving money to buy the prius. I hope GM makes the volt a production model a reality. I don’t even care if the volt does not come with the flex (hydrogen, bio desel, or ethanol). It could be just plain unleaded gas that recharges the e-drive. It would be nice to have american car companies raise again….. hopefully
Claire M. Adkins
Until GM recieves enough consumer support for electric vehicles they will not release the Volt or any electric alternatives. I would buy a GM Volt but would prefer their older EV1. Please show your support because major companies worry about profits not the environment.
Jim Simon
The Chevy Volt, more than any other car in Chevrolet’s line-up, is “the heartbeat of America.”
You could sell hundreds of beta versions to people…at least to people like me. Please contact me to help you bring this to mass production!
Frank Nieto
This sounds great. But is GM just doing this to sound green?
Let’s also take a look at a family sized version of this vehicle. Chrysler had an all electric Caravan for use as an airport shuttle. An 80 mile range I believe on lead acid batteries.
If they every bring that out for practicle use to the average family, then I will buy it from Chrysler. If GM does this first, then I will buy it from GM.
What will GM actually do now that you’ve whetted our appetite?
Frank
Chris Cronen
I was brought up on GM. My dad worked there for 33 years. I have owned GM all my life. I bought a new Z-71 pickup back in 97′. It never let me down. Now with 190,000 miles and still running strong, my brother has it. I like the Chevy Volt. As soon as they are available, I will be trading in my 2005 Malibu.
Bill Vigrass
The VOLT is a very good first step towards electric propulsion. Much research is needed to extend the range of electric only energy storage. It can be done. Keep at it.
Bill Vigrass
Ben Baker
Please put me on the list for the first volt. It’s about time you guys did something right, and this could be it.
debra cianci
Its about time that GM decided to build a car like this. You are several years late though. I was driving during the oil shortage during the 70’s. We need more like this. Please don’t price it higher than what Honda or Toyota has now or it will not sell, no matter how good it is. I would love to own one.
Paul Rybski
Two features I miss on the Volt are regenerative braking and NiMH batteries. Regenerative braking would extend mileage in stop-and-go traffic, and use of NiMH batteries — used successfully to date in the 100+ mile range of the Toyota RAV4 EV — could bring the Volt to market next year or as soon as a production line could be constructed. There is no need to wait for Li batteries when NiMH batteries could be used today. I am ready to place a downpayment on a Volt today, but my local dealer will not accept my money. How else can any of us convince Chevy or GM that our interest is serious?
Paul Rybski, Whitewater, WI
Mark
I’ll believe it when I see it. And when I see it, I will buy it. Please, please build the Volt. Thanks.
Saso
I want this car now! Please keep me on your list and let me know when it will become available.
Hope that will be very, very soon.
RC
Build it and we will come buy!
Reavis Stone
You build it and I will buy it. I drive a Honda Hybrid now.
MIKE LUBY
I’LL BUY ONE FOR SURE.
IF YOU BUILD IT THEY WILL COME. SLAP A SOLAR PANEL IN IT AND LET IT CHARGE WHILE I’M IN THE OFFICE AND IT’LL BE EVEN CHAPER.
Chris Andrews
Well, I got into a car accident last week and totaled my S10. I’m in the market now for a new car. If the Volt was for sale now I wouldn’t bother researching what car to buy next. I’d go pick one up tomorrow. However I would prefer a small pick pick-up version. Guess I’ll have to settle for somthing else now.
Fred Howell
I am definitely going to be in the market for an electric vehile. I have just paid off my ‘03 2500HD duramax. i have been extremely happy with that truck and it does everything i want a truck to do. the only drawback is the costs per mile. i am going to buy a second vehicle for commuting and short trips - if an all electric vehicle is available they will be on the top of the list. I just read an interesting article about the Telsa Motor company as well. Looks like there should be plenty of options in the next couple years. My two cents - if you are serious - get rid of the fuel engine - use all that space/weight for bigger batteries. i could probably commute all week on one charge - i have a second vehicle for longer trips - though anything longer than 250 miles i would probably fly anyway.
Marcus
Please make this car! this is the most exciting car to have come out with extended fuel mileage, if this car is entered is the range of 25,000-30,000 dollar range consider me and many others I have talked to sold. I am a carpenter and if their ever is another run of 2007 Hybrid sierras I will be very happy to purchase one.
James
America was made great by innovation and hard work… That’s what our fathers and grand-fathers believed… I know corporate or globle America hates that idea… it costs to much money… but its not an old fashioned idea, or passed away thought. Its the way we are, its our heritage, its American… I hope that still means something to someone at GM. When did it become politically incorrect to stand for innovation in our nation, and when did it become to much effort to believe in high standards, and to continue to challenge, and change, amd learn from our mistakes… to make a better nation for all of us and our chidren… the bottom line is your choice to make the VOLT and other fuel friendly cars molds the future. A future of dependence or independence… our nation is formed for liberty and justice for all. Independence is our call for freedom, our biggest innovative to the world-AMERICAN FREEDOM… Be an innovator GM like our fathers and grand-fathers… change the nation, and the world…
James Sullivan

Where can I sign up ! I am ready to buy one today….when will it be ready?
David
I’m ready to buy one right now!! What are you waiting for?? If you can build it, please do so!
Breck
Finally . . . a GM car to get really excited about. I have never owned a GM product. . . but if the Volt starts showing up in GM showrooms, you can count on it being a serious contender for my next new vehicle purchase.
Bob Kenan
I will buy one as soon as available!! Great looking, fantastic concept!
Joe Miceli
I am a devote Chevy customer.
Having owned 3 Tahoes, one Suburban, and 2 Impalas over the years I am now very impressed with your new concept “Volt”.
I’m ready when you are. I look forward to owning one soon. Please keep me posted.
D. McA
Stop deliberating and start building! I am very interested in making my next new car an innovative and sensible one. The Volt is a car I would buy.
Chuck E.
Long overdue! If it is available for under $18,000 I say you have a winner. Get that production line moving!!!
Gary CaRON
I will buy one. Please inform me when a production model will be available.
Rick Morrison
with 478,00 miles on the old big block, guess it is time to conserve. LOVE THE CAR !!!!!!!!
G. Bieringer
If the engine is a diesel, I’m definitely interested. Diesel and/or electric will be the only saving grace for the country. Diesels that burn 100% vegtable oil, that is.
Please keep me posted.
Vicky Davis
I think this is the greatest car I’ve ever seen. It looks great while also being incredibly economical. I can’t wait to own one!!!
Doug
I purchased a Prius in 2000 when it had to be requested over the internet and have been very happy with the car but would replace it without hesitation with the Volt. So quit teasing and start finding out how big the demand will be by offering it for sale!
Tom Jurasko
Need a real-world tester? Put me on the list and let me know when the Volt is available. Looks good and a great concept!
Slem
In the past, I have told myself that I would never be able to drive an electric vechicle…poor performance, high maintenance, and UGLY! Well, the Volt has changed everything! Sign me up!
Violet
Yes! Build the “Volt”! USA needs this car before Japan builds one.
Rob
I think everyone is ready for this concept. GM - you have a sure-fire winner. I am ready to test-drive this car now until I can but it outright. It fits every driving scenario that I need. long and short commutes, and occasional long trips. I am excited and I’m sure many others share my feelings! Bring it on, please! How can I get in on this up-front???
Ed
So, when can I get one? Is cash ok? Can the battery be replaced after 100K? I’ve put about 550K miles on the last 6 Chevy’s in my fleet. 145K on my 94 astro. I’ve been waiting for a GM hybrid that will be offered in the Chicago area. My daughter bought a Prius cause she couldn’t wait any longer. Tell me it will be available real soon now.
raymond gautier
I’ve been a Chevy owner over 30 years and my 3 children drive Saturn’s. your companies commitment to design, safety and energy conservation keep us coming back. thanks for the commitment to excellence and thinking about future generations power needs.
Paul Corey
I would buy one today if it was available. How many years away is this product?
Mike T.
I want this car! If you release this car, even in limited production next year, GM will be the talk of the nation for its technical leadership! “GM is getting America off of foreign oil.” “GM is helping against global warming!” Every Hollywood star will be promoting it! This car is a paradigm shift against the foreign car companies. Please keep us informed as to when it will be released and how we can get on the waiting list. Thank you.
steve
It’s about time. You should have been producing electric cars years ago. I’m glad you’re finally get serious about it. Now don’t price them so high the working people can’t afford them.
Charles & Darraline
We have been waiting for something like this & it is very sharp looking too.
Dale Norenberg
Thanks so much for your efforts to better the environment! I originally started at the GM site looking for E85 vehicles to find out that there is EVEN BETTER IN DEVELOPMENT !!! I hope to purchase a Hybrid this spring with an Electric or Plug in Hybrid in my future! Thanks!
R Jensen
As a hybrid owner I look forward to get another car like it. Only this one is cooler looking and has better technology.
Troy
Ok. Here’s the deal. We shot man to the moon on ‘1969′ technology; yet, and the big three are still cramming fossil fuel down our throats. Hey wait, if we didn’t buy them (i.e. supply and demand)… then they would produce something worthy. GM has failed the car buying public. Would I buy the Volt? Why should I; do I look stupid? I can drive a Civic with the same results. Come on GM… I want a vehicle without fossil fule, gets in excess of 300 miles per charge… of which I don’t have to peddel!!! Get it done.
Christopher Rhoads
I travel 48 miles each way to work, I would love to own a car like this, however, new technology needs a strong warranty to support any kinks that might arise and incourage people to invest in the technology. Often I hear people say they dont want these cars until the bugs are worked out.
Bradley Henderson
Yes finaly someone has the right idea. We need to become self sufficiant. Now if someone can just come up with a home system to recharge the Hydrogen fuel cell Hmm…Can someone say Kitchen sink ???
Come on guys you can do it !
Just like the electric car why hasn’t anyone worked on a solar charging system integrated into the roof efficient enough to keep the vehicle charged so there is no need for charging stations. Honey can you water the lawn and while you’re at it go ahead and fill up the car. Technology is here people !!!
Randy
I test drove the Toyota and Honda Hybrids and dismissed them as an option because even on short runs you still have to fire up the gasoline engine. The VOLT sounds very interesting. For most of our usage we would operate only with the electric motor. When will it be available?
Tom O
I will be watching for commercial availability and will pay a visit to my local Chevy dealership. This would be a perfect environmentally friendly commuter.
Ron Gonsalves
build it & we will come! Trust me on this — Baby boomers are looking for it — as are Gen X
My SSr will sit in the garage for special trips only!
Ken
I love the idea of the Volt concept vehicle. However, I am personally waiting for the true all electric powered car. I know it is possible and I know that you have the capability to make it. Let’s show the big oil companies who the boss really is!
Carl
Can’t wait!! Looking forward
to making the change years ago. I will not buy another
gas vehile. BRING ON THE VOLT
Alan Francesconi
I,m very impressed and can,t wait untill there in the showrooms. Please hurry!
Heather
Very sexy car.
Cris
Great looking car! It would definitely help me out with my commute to and from work!
Aaron
If anything will pull GM from the brink of bankruptcy, it will be the Volt, or a car with similar technology. Make it. I’ll buy it.
jennifer wallace
We are waiting for a new fuel type vehicle for our next purchase & we won’t buy another gas car
Terry James
I’m hoping my next car is an electric vehicle. I’ll be ready to buy in a year or so, and I’m committed to buying a mass produced electric vehicle with the capabilities of the Volt!
Joel
You can’t make this car soon enough. I would pay cash for one today if it was available!
There are longer lasting electric car batteries available however. Altair Nanotechnologies already has a Lithium-Ion battery with a 240 mile range.
Christopher Butt
This car is a wonderful concept! Put it in to the production line! We can’t afford to wait. This technology needs to be available now. I do however have some critisism on the look of the car. It’s not the prettiest car I have ever seen. The hood/grill/wheels… is too big compared to the rest of the car. The window looks so small! Aestetically speaking, it is not doing it for me. It needs a change. Maybe this technology needs a lot of space? It looks like you have a truck and shoved a car on top. Just because it has this new technology doesn’t mean the car itself has to look radically different. I think that is why the Prius is so successful. It is only slightly modified or “modernized.” It appears that someone was really trying to make a statement with this one and went a little overboard. The Prius is a little more slick or chic. This car is bulky and spaceship looking. Give me a practical window. Those are too small. All that considered, I like the concept of the flex fuel and plug in technology, even sticking to my believe that the car is not good looking or pretty, I’d drive it. I would always comment on how ugly my car is, but I’d drive it. Please actually make this car and PLEASE SELL IT TO PEOPLE TO BUY! YOU CAN MAKE MONEY FROM THAT! .. or so I heard.
Jerry
Love the idea and would like to get on the waiting list to purchase one.
Stacie Wernick
This comment should be directed to customer service. When can I expect to purchase a Chevy Volt? How much will they run? Have they looked into the NI MH battery’s. They are more affordable. I can pay what the Hybrids are selling for today but not over this amount.I can’t wait till I own an affordable electric car!
Alex Clow
Keep going with this GM! Turn the corner from concept to reality!!! The styling and engineering appear top notch. GO GO GO!!!!
Steven McCue PE
As a powertrain engineer, I have followed the evolution of electric and hybrid electric powertrains closely. The Chevy Volt concept is the next logical evolutionary step, and perhaps the first logical, practical “electric” vehicle. The potential to never use petroleum fuel, and yet never fear running out of charge on a trip, is the real breakthorugh. Now the only thing GM needs to do is: 1) bring the vehicle to production and 2) offer a CUV body in addition to the low, sporty concept vehicle, to accomodate practical needs for space and ride height. I hope to see and purchase one soon.
dat
It’s about time. Why the heck did GM waited too long to come up with something like this? For goodness sake, Toyota and Honda were playing with their hybrids since the early ’90s. The GM Volt could have kept the US automaker very competitive. I like the Volt but I’m very upset at GM for such complacency or whatever the reason. So mad that I’ve developed a resentment against them and their products. As good as the idea is with the Volt, sometimes it’s too little too late.
Long live the donkey! That’s what I want to drive these days.
Laurie
I’ve been waiting. When will it be available???
Terry Collins
I would absolutely purchase one of these vehicles if they were available! This concept has been around for 100 years & it’s such an obvious positive step in the right direction. GM, you have a chance to be visionary beyond any scope of comprehension. Lead us into this 21st century with responsibility for the future & i believe you will find that the people will overwhelmingly support you… and the Volt!!
Eric
I would rather by a car from an american automaker, but that seems to be Toyota. So now I own and by Toyota, I wanted to by an electric car years ago, but you decided to promote the Hummer instead. You had us and now are playing catch-up very poorly too I might add. If you build an electric car I will buy one. There are electric cars that go up to 300 miles a charge, and you guys are still on concept cars. If you are wondering if you made a wrong choice years ago fighting the electric car market, just look at your diminishing market share and stock! Roger Smith had one thing right, develop the electric car! The Hummer buyers will still buy the Hummer.
Robert
Why doesn’t GM get the lead out and offer these today! Where are the diesel hybrids and the fuel cells and the BIO-Diesel?
We need these vehicles today!
Shawn Crisp
Looks good, saves me money on gas and appeals to my environmental ethics.
I’d buy one if it was reliable, and in line price-wise with the hybrids already out there.
Hey to be a cynic, but I doubt GM has the guts to pull it off though — we’ll probably see the first commercially viable all-electric from Toyota I’m afraid.
Jason M. Polman
The volt looks like a great idea, and the powertrain system looks like it will actually work in the real world. I’m not crazy about the design, but it is a step in the right direction. Make it afforable and this southern California native will buy one.
Alan Gandy
I think the volts should already be on the road or atleast some kind of gas saving car. Electrics where out decades ago and they never made it to mass market so whats the problem oil. People are greedy and like to stay wealthy so big monopolies don’t want electrics or whatever gas saving cars to get out. It’s bullcrap. Im a student from NC 16 years old. Im tired of gas guzzling idiots.
Bill Hicks
Build it and they will buy!!! I’m so fed up with the big petroleum companys ripping us off. Just think… an Electric car, powered by power provided by a wind generator… Do it!
jeanne
I too have been waiting for more electric vehicles (American made) to hit the market and this sounds like just the ticket! AND the looks are fantastic, just in time for my mid-life change from the mommy mobile McVan to something SEXY!
BRING IT ON!
Ron Hanson
Why not yesterday??
c. peterson
It’s about time American car manufacturers get onboard with gas efficient vehicles. It’s no wonder that foreign car companies are profitible while American car manufacturers are in financial trouble. What does it take for American car manufacturer to wake up and produce a car efficient car. Americans who drive long distances to work daily need a fuel efficient car. Let’s hope that the new Volt will find its place in the fuel efficient car market —- better late than never.
Penny Wetherell
If you build it …… they will come (consumers).
Please build this car!
Mike E
I think the plug-in hybrid is the way to go! It provides real world flexability to handle both short and long trips in an environmentally friendly way. I will consider the Volt when it comes out, provided it the batteries function well in the winter weather.
Stacey H
I can’t wait….I really can’t just bought a Jetta TDI that we are running biodiesel in now…Would love to buy your car when it comes out. It is perfect for me.
Mark Mueller
I would buy this car right now. GM build this car.
Ray Mirowski
I live 8 miles from work and it takes me about 18 minutes to commute. I would buy this car now if it was available. Do you need a tester? Sign me up!
liz
This is just what we need, just a little something to get to work and back. Occasionaly a need to go on longer jaunt.
Terry Fennessey
I am Electrician and think the is a great looking car. I have 1966 big block corvette and I would love to have the Volt. i would drive it every where.
David Hrivnak
The car really looks sharp but I hope GM focuses more on functionality than looks. I think the car will mainly appeal to practical minded people. I would like it to seat 5, have room for luggage for trips and be easy to see out of especially for my wife who is 4′ 11″. Are not the large rimmed tires both expensive and stiff for long drives?
Peter Favrholdt
Great looking electrical car. This is something that could change the world by reducing pollution from transportation and the need for fossil fuel.
Please consider also solving all the remaining problems of transportation (e.g. safety, traffic jams, low speed). Take a look at the dual-mode principle (see http://www.ruf.dk )
David
Nice car! “Build it and they will come”. Why not use the same plug-in idea for the new upcoming Tahoe/Yukon Hybrid???
Peter McKell
This is totally awesome. This is the best concept that GM has conceived. I want one now.
Dennis Green
Live up to your promise to make Volt possible for the masses, as a vehicle like this should have been available (and I hear was) long by now.
Mark Bradley
Finally…GM gets it. If they don’t mass produce this car or something like it NOW, Toyota and Honda will do them in for good! Allow people to actually BUY it…not just a lease like with the EV1. This is business 101….a NO BRAINER!
Scott K
I would love to have an American made, cutting edge efficient car like this in my California driveway. It might help ween my neighbors away from their cars from overseas.
Gary Willms
It’s exactly what GM and the U.S.A. needs. I’m thinking sooner rather than later. Count me in.
Chris Neely
I love the whole concept please make this a reality.
S Hansen
I have been waiting for a “plug in” hybrid, as I have a photovoltaic installation that has enough excess power to keep one charged. I have been a Chevy fan all my life and would love to own this car. I’ll put down a $5000 deposit anytime to reserve one. I would pay up to about $32,000 for this car.
Craig Arnold
The concept is correct and the styling great. Maybe add some additional battery stations for those who would want more battery range (options)!
Sarah
Love it, love it, love it! Make it reliable and price it so I can afford to buy it and I’ll swear off Japanese cars!
Daneen E.
Please quit teasing me with this car and put it out for goodness sakes!!!!!!!!!! I want this car!
David JK
Fantastic to see this idea in a family car wrapper. I’d buy one to replce my electric Reva G-Wiz here in London, England. But give credit to Renault which offered a range extender first in their Kangoo Electrique van!
Mike Dwyer
Build it, and you will help me save the world
Michael
This car is a no brainer. Sign me up. Build it and I will purchase my first ever american car and own it proudly.
Michael
ECHO
Shawn
If it is not too much, sign me up!
What took so long? With the EV1, this should have been sooner.
70 miles electric would be better.
Joel Trombley
I’d trade in my HHR for a “volt” like auto. Let’s hope this is not an idle con-cept.
mason
love the concept…but anyone looking a flat mount solor pannel to increase range and to charge the battery while i work…
thanks for the great ideas and keep the coolness comming
(i own the HHR) love it
Alicia Dorset
Thanks for the continued great feedback. Beth Lowery, GM’s VP of Environment and Energy, just posted her thoughts from a battery briefing in Warren, Mich., today. If you’re interested in taking a look at what she has to say regarding battery technology, make sure to take a look at FastLane.
Ginny
Great looking car. Release ASAP, but make it affordable for the averge family that makes under $70K per year, has children, taking care of senior parents, etc. In other words keep it under $27,000 dollars. Less if you want a lot of people to take advantage of this alternative fuel vehicle. Hope to see the car released for sale soon.
Alejandro Meneses
I have been against buying any GM vehicle since the company refused to leave the EV-1 on the roads, but seeing that you are finally embracing the advantages of an ELECTRIC vehicle, not just an electric assisting motor, I pledge to BUY one of the first Chevy Volt when they make it to production.
Please continue the good work and specially the hard work on doing the right thing. Remember the mistakes of the EV-1 and create a marketing campaign that shows PEOPLE and CARS, each one excited about the other and remember the people they can go electric without the range limitations of current low-production EV’s.
Thank you GM for bringing the light and leading the future in America with a reliable Plug-In Hybrid!!!
Mary Daum
This is an amazing looking car which should be made available for sale to the public. All my cars have been GM vehicles. However, I decided not to buy another GM vehicle when I learned about the company’s behaviour with the EV-1. If this car became available I would definitely be interested in buying it.
Angie
Marty
Please, please, please make an American car that I want to buy. This is a step in the right direction. Build it now so I can buy it.
brown
Don’t ask for our opinions, build the car, and then kill it as other companies have done with electric cars in the past. It’s a great idea, please build this vehicle for your environmentally friendly consumers.
Jim V.
Just the car i need.
rene nielsen
what are you waiting for….dont make me buy a prius….
tom
WOW!! FINALLY GM IS GETTING THE PICTURE AND GETTING OUT OF BED WITH THE OIL COMPANYS. THAT IS AN INCREDIBLE LOOKING CAR I CANT WAIT FOR ITS RELEASE IM BUYING ONE!!!
r williams
Long over due.
I offer to be a test person.
Mark
I’m stoked for this car. I bought a Yaris because it gets good gas mileage and was cheaper than a hybrid I think are still lacking. The Volt is exactly what I’m looking for to motivate me to pay $$$ for a real electric environmentally friendly car.
scott meares
this is a beautiful car. environmentally friendly, looks great and has a decent range than other cars. please make them available in australia. they will sell like hot cakes. i would definately get 1 !! well done !
Alice
Don’t forget the baby boomers; I love what I’ve read about the car, and believe most of my generation would consider buying it if the savings were worth the cost of the car–fixed incomes, you know; have to be realistic. One thing I saw that might slow us down: those seats. I had surgery last year; and, suddenly, getting in and out of our Honda with the slightly raised edges on the seats was a problem (there was no problem with the smooth edges of our Mercury). Those high edges on the seats would really be difficult for us older folks with age-related stiffness and soreness, and there are getting to be a lot of us. Those concerns aside, I think this car can be a winner.
jim martin
Better build it quick before Honda or toyota beat’s GM to it. While you are at it, why not build it in Flint, Michigan? Give something back to the town that made GM #1.
Danielle
If you build it and bring it to Canada, we will buy it. Please try to make it happen!
Sharon Nelson
I grew up in the 50’s thinking that Chevrolet was the real American car to own–quality and patriotism beckoned. However, for whatever reason–the company became stuck in a rut, Chevrolet is no longer my top choice. To help save the environment, however, I would change my opinion and do my part. And purchasing an electric car appeals to me—if I can afford it. If I can’t, walking or bicycling may have to do.
Bif
when can we get it ? looks great
Armando Benavides
When will the Volt be available, I want one
stephan martin
i’d love to see more american alternative and electric fuel vehicles. yes!!! go volt!!!
Craig White
We want one as soon as it is available!
Stacy Flick Colbaugh
I grew up in Flint, Michigan. My dad retired from GM a few years ago. It is disappointing to see present-day Flint in such disrepair after the GM factories moved out. I am on my 4th GM vehicle and I am still a loyal GM customer. I own a 2001 Chevy Malibu, even though it gets great gas mileage, I ride my bike to work sometimes to save gas money and to be more eco-friendly. I was shopping around for a new vehicle and the first place I go to look for a new car is the GM website. I was ecstatic to see the VOLT…then I discovered it’s only a concept car. I would really like to buy one. It is sleek and modern… a design quality that GM seemed to lose along the way in the struggle to be number one. I am architect, I strive to use environmentally-friendly building materials in my designs. Also, I have to reduce the impact of the building on the environment. I want to expect the same results from the car I drive here in Tennessee. It would be even better if the volt were to be manufactured in the USA…or how about a factory in Flint, Michigan? Perhaps pride could be reintroduced in this industry. Create an American Alternative that is better than Toyota or Honda. GM, please give us a product we will be proud to buy, and we will stay loyal customers.
MEL WHITED
I had to look hard to find this concept, im sold. The volt looks good but i would buy it if it looked bad. As a matter of fact i want 2, one for my wife one for me, the catch would be the price. I would only pay up to 30,000k each, and the battery pack would have to last 180,000k miles with a rplacement cost of no more than 10,000 dollars.
Don
Chevy,
BUILD IT!!! I’m a die hard, life long GM owner and have been waiting for years for Chevy or another GM division to commence production of a fuel cell vehicle or hybrid electric such as the Volt.
BUILD IT PLEASE!
Connie Gresham
Whenever you want a free test driver, for say, 5 years…SIGN ME UP!!!!!
Robert Longway
Even if the Volt is not ready for “prime time”, it’s a good step in the right direction. I was very disappointed when the EV-1 was withdrawn from the market. Bring another electric car to the market ASAP.
Morgan Farrier
What took you so long?
I have been waiting for an American car company to step up to the plate for 20 years, but better late than never. By the way please fast track the concept to reality before I have grand kids.
Les Hunter
When will it be availible? I want one now.
markbnj
I’d love for you to give tesla motors a run for their money
Perhaps you might even BUY them, and see if they can help YOU build this efficiently.,
I could buy one at 40,000
I wish I could buy the original roadster tehy have for 100K.
If I could afford it, I would today…
I hope YOU can do it.
Paul
Put the concept in a family sedan with broad appeal like the Impala and I’ll buy it!
William Dean
Wow I can’t believe an electric car would look this amazingly good. I like it better than your new concept commaro.
I WANT ONE.
Even though I have a Mercedes Benz I can easily see my self using this car for day to day driving within my county and maybe using my benz for long distance, but it’s nice to know I can still go much farther with the volt.
I love the fact I don’t have to a filling station wheather that filling station is hydrogen, ethonal or gasoline, I only have to go home, nice.
This car makes sense, so I’m sure it will be cancealed when the public isn’t looking. Sadly I have no trust in car manufactures to bring this to the market, but either way it’s a cool car.
Sighned, STILL waiting for ethonal in S. California.
AKA DEAN
Stephanie Weyrick
I can’t wait to see it in the flesh. Finally, a “green” car that looks and sounds COOL!!!!!!!!!
When will it be available?!!!!
Mike
It’s a beautiful car and a great idea. This is the future for cars and the future for GM. Cars like the Volt are the perfect solution for our environmental and economic problems with pure gasoline vehicles. We all know fuel-cell vehicles are still a long way off (let alone the infrastructure). This is the right car at the right time and thank you for taking the lead GM.
The best part about this platform is you can make a whole line of cars out of it; a five passenger cross-over SUV, an all wheel drive performance sedan, even an AWD light duty truck like a smaller vertion of the Avalanche. I’m super exited for this product and can’t wait to buy one. Keep me posted.
nick howard
i hope that you will develop and create this vehicle and technology i wish to buy one if one is produced please give me the chance to purchase a car of this type from GENERAL MOTORS Americas car company thank you
Bill Thomas
What a great looking car! If it can be built at a reasonable price (under $30,000?) I will buy one. Gasoline is never going to be cheap again and the less I have to buy, the better off I will be.
Mark Grandmont
Yes! This is exactly what we need! But how about a solar panel on the roof that can charge the battery during the day? Or maybe a solar kit that stays at home and stores power. And when you get home at night, you plug in your Volt?
Darryl
I agree with many of the posters above. It’s time for GM to put up or shut up. Build efficient, environmentally sound cars like this for a reasonable price with reasonable build quality and I’ll never buy a Toyota again.
Ralph
I love the idea of a plug in electric. Tesla Motors has a beautiful version, now headquartered in Rochester Hills, MI. Actor George Clooney owns a Tango Electric car. It is time for the Chevrolet Volt. With a small electric generator to extend mileage, the Volt will be a practical vehicle. I WOULD BUY ONE TODAY.
Lee Sutter
For the sake of us all, and for the sake of Mother Earth’s dwindling resources, PLEASE get this car to market as quickly as you can!
ED
It looks like a perfect beginning for a practical electric automobile. The time has come. Get it made soon.
Matt
I would Nver buy from GM again. UNLESS THEY RELEASE THIS CAR!!!! I have been a straight toyota/honda guy over the last 6-7 years. This would change EVERYTHING. This is by far the best concept of 2007 and would save GM. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE release this car soon.
Randy
Well if you build it I will buy it! just make sure it comes with a warranty and properly trained technicians. I want this care within 2-3yrs so I should start saving now! I wish they could ball park the cost of this? 20, 30, 40k?
Michael McGee
I want a VOLT TODAY!!! I wanted a EV-1 for more than ten years! I came within an hour of actually flying to Arizona to lease an EV then trailer it back to Florida where I live. In late 2003 I had to settle for a Honda Civic Hybrid that I now have over 94,000 miles on, with an average 50 MPG/tank, and with no service problems. GM! Get the lead out and start making an electric car! or something very close to the VOLT!! IT WILL SELL!! I will buy it! And so will many of my friends! My commute 5 days/week is 64 miles round trip, so an electric only range of 70 miles would be outstanding!!
Kevin
I can’t wait to buy one of these things. Looking forward to production.
Dorothy
Great idea. Can’t wait for this. Why is it that most of the upcoming hybrids are SUV’s or trucks? We need compact hybrids more than anything else. You’d sell a huge number of these Volt’s if they were already available!
I’m in Calgary.
Jonathan
Get this show on the road. You won’t be able to produce enough of them to keep up with demand. Dodge and Ford will be sucking wind!
Steve
I’m interested in purchasing this car. Finally, an American car company problem-solving and willing to lead.
Thank you!
Dan
Another vote for the Volt. Build it and we’ll buy it. We own a classic musclecar and would proud to own the Volt as well.
BUILD IT!
Andy Spohn-Larkins
I really like the idea behind this vehicle, this approach seems very practical. However with all electric vehicles, pricing seems to be beyond affordable for many. The long term savings are wonderful, but a short term chunk like 40+K can really be a deal breaker and hard to finance. I would pay/could afford payments on $20,000 for this car, maybe $25k. One concern I have is plugging it in at apartments or homes without garages. The plug should be able to be plugged into a power cord coming from a building and be weather proof. Other than that, I think this is a wonderful idea and I hope that GM can produce this or like concepts in the near future.
Paul
The Volt looks outstanding. As both my cars are from ‘93, I am looking forward to hearing more about this. How about a family sized version! perhaps at lower cost with less thrills….didn’t see any mention of regenerative braking? don’t forget the forces lost slowing a car down in common traffic! a plug in that can run on ethanol etc. PERFECT! will buy CHEVY/E85 to support America.
Craig
It would be the first GM or Chevrolet car I would ever consider buying. I own a Honda CRV but gases prices are rising to $3 again this summer and I was considering purchasing a hybrid from Toyota in the next few years - some later generation of the Prius for that and other reasons. Given GM’s history of smoke and mirrors when it comes to electric cars I am skeptical that the Volt will ever be anything but a concept car. There is a reason GM is falling behind Toyota. I will save my excitement for the time when I can take the Volt for a test drive before buying it. If that day comes you could have a new customer. If not, well I will be over at the Toyota or Honda lot. Stop taking polls and start producing cars that people want to buy like the Volt!
Craig
I should add that I am not happy that Toyota is not offering the Prius as a pluggable hybrid and is just one reason I would pick a Volt over a Prius if is were available.
Sean
I have been waiting for an electric car for years, and would buy the Volt in an instant. I’m waiting, GM!
Mike Huggins
I really hope this car makes it into production!!
I and my wife would buy one in a heartbeat!
High School Teacher - Oklahoma
Clay
I would buy one….
Mark Cosgrove
I would buy one!!
I would have bought the EV1!!
What the heck are you guys waiting for??
-COS
Michael Tousignant
My kid would say KICK A## STYLE & I would Have to Agree - I Would Like to See 100 Miles a Day On A Charge That would do my days runs and the trip home Keep the Drawing board open I think the larsen hydrogen model would be a great combo with this if you can make it safe Spark Spark
Steven
Put one in the Auto X-Prize competition! As long as you can do 100 MPGe and meet their GHG emission, safety & marketability standards, you’d get a lot of free publicity (and a few million dollars) if you won. I’ll even volunteer to be on the team if you want a driver …
Johnnie B Strong
Please GM rush the Volt to production and prove the critics wrong.
Austin Gates
Sign me up for a Volt!! Please build them and fast. GM could be a major part in saving this planet. What a legacy!
Cass
This is a very interesting concept, one that I am excited to read about. I would love to be one of those to say I would definitely buy it, but I have more to consider than just MPG when buying a car.
I would like to know some basic information that should have been included on Chevy’s site. Dimensions, for instance. Interior pictures/specs. Safety features.
And exactly what price are we talking here? While it could save me $900 or more in gas each year, am I still paying that or more through my loan?
Great idea that should definitely move forward with added details!
Richard E. Everett
I hope to see this car soon. The time is right for this innovation. I wil be at my dealers front door when it is released. As Larry the cable guy says, “Get Er Done!”
jason
GM:
Tell us what can we (the consumers) can do to help make this vehicle a reality?
Computer Programmer - Phoenix
This car goes to show that GM does have the knowledge and technology to be to raise the bar. Now they need to take the next step and follow through. Don’t be the company that killed the EV, be the company that helped the planet; put an end to foreign dependency on petroleum; forced other companies (not just the major car companies) to do more R&D; force local governments to support and back these technologies; and in time lower the cost so it wouldn’t make sense no to own a vehicle like this one.
Scott Sweezey
Would be perfect for my commute. Now we just need a way to generate electricity without fossil fuels that everyone will embrace.
Jon
It is about time. I have been waiting for us to make this stand for a while. not against the Middle East nor from pollution; waiting for us to make a stand to ensure we all have a better future. I have a few ideas that your engineers might want to look at. send me an E-mail, who knows could lead to a better job than the one I have now. U.S. Army Infantry.
Sincerely
Jon
“Dare to change the future”
Jessica
I WILL BUY ONE!! MAKE THIS CAR AVAILABLE!!!
Lou Lippincott
I would love to have this car and use it as a combo Electric/E85. Hope it comes to production.
carlos osorio
I’ll love to get my hands on one this cars. But will they build it? Looks like Japan is again way a head of us. Hope I’m wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tim Mastny
I saw “who killed the electric car” and was totally shocked the you would quit making this car. You lose a billion dollars scratch your head why honda and toyota are kicking the big 3’s butts. Well here is your chance to come back. But first why not open a plant right now and give some of the people you’ve been laying off their jobs back by starting up the EV-1 again. It’s not like you need anymore technology for it. So we don’t have to hear you’ll have to wait ten years for the car because all we have is a prototype now. being the Volt. You can start selling the EV-1 next month or so and I know I would be in line to get one plus how many other people. So get it up first and then bring on the Volt whenever possible for a choice for people. You’d have two winners for sure. I can’t understand how the oil companies can make the big profits and you lose the big profits and don’t care. Build us the electric car again!!!! We know it is there. Thanks For listening Tim
tubaman
I would be the first to buy if I can afford the price
Mark Spinner
Love to see this with a diesel and an ability to control how the battery discharges…The ability to maximize use of battery and recharge it at either end of the trip using an outlet…or a regenerative charge with the engine on a longer trip to maximize gas miliage.
Mike
I agree with Tim Mastny. I was ready to buy an EV-1 but none were available in my area even as a lease. I would buy one right now since the range of the EV-1 would be perfect for my lifestyle. You could begin production on the EV-1 just as it was in 2003 and I would also be very interested in the Volt for some time in the near future, but with the price of gas today and all of the wastfulness of E85 production, electric is the way to go and it is viable now. Mike Buffington
Ron Shirk
I own 2 Saturn’s but was disappointed by the Vue hybrid when it came out. Now, finally, the US automakers are forward thinking ahead of the overseas brands. Way to go GM.
Looks like just the car I have been waiting for. I was looking to buy a Prius, but the VOLT looks to be worth waiting for. How do I get on a waiting list? Sign me up!!
Ed
Until my most recent purchase, I had always driven GM. However, I went with another manufacturer because of pricing/features that I wanted.
That car is getting up in mileage, and I have held off buying a new one in the hopes that some one other than Toyota would build something that would be more Eco conscious, as well as more versatile than Gas/Electric.
The volt is more than I ever would have expected. It isn’t hydrogen (like I was hoping for) but, it beats Prius.
Guess I’ll have to wait until it goes into production to find out if I can afford it.
Donna
Why would it take so long to develop the Volt? Where is the technology for the EV-1?
Let’s get it going!
robt
I would trade in my prius in a ‘heartbeat’
gloria
I SAW A PREVIEW OF THE CARS TO COME. THE VOLT IS BY FAR THE BEST. PLEASE MAKE ALL OF YOUR LINE AS TRENDY AS THIS ONE AND NOT LOOKING LIKE IT SHOULD BE ON THE SET OF STAR TREK. I AM GOING TO BE A CHEVY GIRL FOR LIFE IF YOU KEEP MAKING CARS AND SUV THIS GOOD. GIVE A BIG THANKS TO YOU DESIGNERS. I WLL LOOK TO THE FUTURE WHEN THE CAR BECOMES AVAILABLE.
Charles
This car is a fantastic concept. I drive about 80 miles to and from work and the possibility to drive half way on electric power is very exciting to me. What kind of fuel mileage would this car get without the batteries? If the generator was used to drive the motor exclusively?
Jim
Put me on the pre-order list. This is exactly the car of the future–forget fuel cells.
richard
Love it provided no shortcuts are taken in the interior design keep the cheap look out and price it for the average consumer mid 20k
I would be hard pressed not to buy one.
Steve
Great idea, I will be retired soon and will need to drive 50 miles to town and I will be living with alt energy (solar panels)to charge with.
Sherri
This car rules. It is exactly what we have in mind for out next car!!! We currently own two chevys if you make this one we will definately buy it. Let me know when come into production so I can buy one.
Pat
It’s look great and sounds even better. Get it in production my ‘95 needs replacing right now!
Michael Dalton
Its about time Detroit got the message. Some of us have been clamoring for an electric vehicle for years. The idea of a backup liquid fuel generator is the best way to extend the mileage. It gives the added secruity of knowing you can get home if you forget to plug it in.
I bought my last gas vehicle in 1991 saying it would be the last gas vehicle I buy and I still have my Chevy S10. I want a new vehicle but I will not buy something that will make me dependent on overseas oil.
Get on the ball and produce this affordable vehicle. I will buy one.
Will Drew
I want this vechicle. How long does it take to make production? When can I purchase? Nice to have a concept, but it is overdue.
Peter Korselt
Please build this car asap. I
will buy it if can afford it.Since 1966 I owned six Cevrolets.
My last GM car was a 1974 Monte Carlo. In 1986 I purchased a Mazda 626LX. I still drive it to work every day.It still runs strong with over 175000 miles on it.My wife drives a 2000 Honda Accord. We will switch back to GM if you build this car.
Phil Ly
Get his car out in 2008 and I will buy it!
B. Murphy
My NoVA commute is less than 40 miles both ways, mostly in traffic jams. Just a driver (me).
Thought the EV1 was okay, but “Who killed the Electric Car ?”
When can I buy a Volt ?
- Electronics Engineer
D. McCann
You guys come up with an affordable model you can count me as a customer. Try to put one out without all the bells and whistles.
Josh
Sounds like GM is heading in the right direction - thankyou. Hopefully you’ll get it built soon so we can start using it!
BARRY
I WOULD DEFINITLELY BUY AN ALL ELECTRIC CAR. WHO NEEDS THE FLEX STUFF. YOU HAVE THE KNOW HOW TO DO BETTER. I HAVE A PRIUS AND I AM SURE TOYOTA WILL BEAT YOU OUT. YOU CAN EASILY MAKE A LITHIUM BATTERY CAR TO GET 150 MILES WITH OUR PRESENT TECHNOLOGY. IN FACT SO COULD TOYOTA AND HONDA AND FORD. THOUGH I BELEVIES GM HAS THE BEST TECHNOLOGY KNOW HOW WILL YOU USE IT?
WHY JUST A CONCEPT CAR WHEN YOU COULD PUT ONE OUT NOW?
Rich
What are we waiting for? If it is cost effective to purchase it lets have it available now!
SEGsby
I wanted to buy an EV-1. Then I found out you couldn’t buy them. So I tried to lease one. The program was canceled, and in the end, you guys crushed nearly every one of them out of existence… That was many years ago.
The fear of the EV-1 and the US Hybrid Program (government funded, but you stopped working on it and took the money) motivated designers in Japan that, years later, have them now sitting on top of the world in terms of units sold. They also boast the highest fuel efficiencies.
How ironic. And there are no US hybrids available today that are built with US designed systems– they all come from Japan.
Volt and E-Flex are probably your last chance to crawl out of the hole you guys dug for yourselves when you killed the EV-1, and dropped the Hybrid concept ball.
Don’t blow it this time. The world is watching…
SEGsby
Thora Birch
AHHH!!!!! I NEED one of these cars.
Please someone tell me when I can buy one (oh yeah, uh, what’s the $$ ?)
bokluk
GM management, just go ahead and build this car if it is technically and economically feasible. There is enough interest left and right and tons of people would buy the car. I have read that the battery technology is not yet ready to make this concept a reality. I truly hope that this Volt concept is not just some marketing BS and a campaign to give GM a green image. If it is indeed technically possible to build it and this thing can cost $30k or less then just build this bloody car and you will overrun the market.
ted
Its about time. When will the car be available for test drives and purchase?
Gary Wilkins
This is a great start. I hope that this is the real thing. I find it hard to believe that it has taken so many years for this type of product to be developed by the auto industry. Make one at a reasonable cost and I will buy it…
carl
I hope to hear this is coming out soon or will buy a smartCar
paul
Build it as shown and I’ll buy one. Build it as a mini van and I’ll buy two.
Owen
This type of environmentally responsible product is the only way that GM (and the rest of us) will be able to survive. Good work!
Ajaye Royal
i have been looking up the volt. that is a fascinating car! i am already sold. make me one! lol
Taras
I have two Japanese cars now and I am happy to own them (it is obvious why), but if VOLT is for sale I will sell both of them and buy one or two VOLTs without hesitation. I was waiting for this car for a long time. But if GM waits too long I will probably end up buying electric car from Honda or Toyota
Eddie
Fantastic style!! Offer it in 5 colors and I will buy one of each. A stylish pickup truck for hauling would go over great too!
Bill Z
GM… this will leap you forward. I feel you have taken the right step forward by going to electric motors to propel the car. Modern cruise ships and modern locomotives have gone to this technology and has proven reliable. This would be a great solution for your large SUV. you should talk to GE on their new green locomotives. They have a new battery technology for their trains. Food for thought.
Joe O'Brien
Please build this car! The concept is first class. Although the styling is a bit clunky, but beauty is only skin deep.
In the years ahead, GM needs a fleet of cars like this. You dont want Toyota and Honda taking over, do you?
Mike G
I cant wait for this giant leap forward.
Eric Eiber
Thank you!! bring back the electric car!! Now, make them and leave them out in the market. You have the money and tech to be the worlds premier EV manuf. make the cars/trucks look good and be reliable. There is NO reason GM can not suceed. GM if you look at this site, BUILD THE EV CARS.
Jay Olack
Make it affordable for everyone, and not just the upper class. EVERYONE needs to be able to afford the vehicle at a reasonable price.
Mitchell
I own a 1996 Ford Explorer. I need to buy a new something soon but. I would really like to have a electric car but more of SUV. Please come to market soon so I can buy one and not get stuck something I really do not need but had to get because it took soooo long to come to market. P.s Have you trying thing about a Hybrid that working with compressed air with the EV. Now that would be right up my kind of vehicle.
Thanks
From the Motor City
Joe Rosenbaum
Keep up the good work and lets see it on the road soon.
let me know when one is for sale
Joe
Alberto Oliveri
If you are going to sell it, I am interested in buying one inmediatly. Please notice me about it´s price.
Krishnan Venkataraman
I think it is time for the Volt to be brought to the market, at least in small numbers for a start- I’d buy it and fell good about what I’d be doing for the environment!
David Schwartz
I want buy a vehicle like the Volt that uses clean electricity most
of the time, but has the ability to operate continuously through the
use of a generator allowing me to go long distances. Please put the
Volt Vote site back up so that I can register my vote
Cindy
Put me on the list too. Style is a big deal to me but so is gas mileage and the environment. I’m ready for this car and I love chevy. Put me on the list.
max salganik
PLEASE MAKE THIS CAR!!! Of the people I know, everyone, and I do mean everyone would seriously consider this as their next car if it goes into production. Mind you many of the same people I am talking about currently drive imports. This would be HUGE in terms of profits and status for GM. Make this car available to the populous and GM will soar!!!
Michael
I would have to trade in the competitors vehicle that I currently drive for this car! I sincerely hope you make this car and gain the competitive advantage in this field.
JL Johnson
Well here we go again GM…
You turned your backs on hundreds of loyal EV1 owners; you killed what could have been the savior to your company. Years later the Japanese have taken over your territory and you are being reactive versus being proactive.
Enough of the attacks though. If you move forward with this concept and it makes it to production you will be met with fierce push back from big oil. Stand your ground, make it cheap, make it safe and you might have a chance in reclaiming American territory.
Until then my family, former staunch GM only drivers will continue to drive our imports.
If this concept comes to fruition I’ll be happy to return to the GM line. Know this though, we will never forget the travesty committed when you crushed nearly every last EV1. Learn from your mistakes.
Jack Leventon
can I take it off roading?
I’ll drive the baja 1000
but it’ll need beefier tires
Daniel Townsend
I’d buy one this week if it were available for purchase. I’d also be willing to be a beta tester for awhile to work out any bugs. Send one over…
Jacob Stevens
Finally after giving up on the EV1, GM has regained my trust. We need to think about future profits and the market and not the 6 month away market. The VOLT is what America wants. I would like more information and lots of corporate emphysis on the EV program.
Phil
I am saddened by GM’s attempt to bring GM back as the number one car manufacture. The Eflex Volt is a good concept, however, I would never buy a coupe with two seats as our family car. We have purchased 3 new Saturns and planned to buy another this year and to our amazement the line has been dropped. If you would put that concept of eflex into a Saturn you would have a chance to bring GM to the top of the heap. The car buying public is speaking to you by your lost sales each year. As for us we will vote by buying the Toyota Prius, I vote for the hope of having a world for my grandchildren. Wouldn[t it be nice for GM to be ranping up production like Toyota to meet the demand of the car buyer instead of dismantleing the Saturn company. To me Volt is more the carrot GM holds out to the public. Sorry.
Randy
I don’t trust GM to actually produce this car. I own a Pontiac (it’s reliable but guzzles gas)and have in the past, trusted GM cars… However, after they killed the EV1, how can I trust them. I’m ONLY still in my Pontiac because I’m so far upside down it’s disgusting. Otherwise, I’d own a hybrid from Toyota. I would consider this car if GM put a FULL EFFORT behind it, regardless of pressure from Big Oil. Otherwise, they can continue to die the slow death they deserve.
Jeff Myers
This is a great step for GM. Too bad it is not available right now. Prius has proven the concept, but this car looks cool! Let’s get it to market!
David
If the price is decent, around $20,000 - 25,000 or so, I would buy it in a heart beat.
William Silveira
Please go full steam ahead and extend E-Flex this new technology to other vehicles.
All of us here want General Motors to remain at remain at the top. We love you GM.
Kurt Randolph
I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL GM CUSTOMER FOR ALMOST 30 YEARS HAVING OWNED A ‘78 MONZA, ‘80 CHEVETTE, ‘88 CELEBRITY, ‘99 MONTANA AND ‘99 SATURN. I HAVE BEEN FRUSTRATED BY THE LACK OF INNOVATION OVER THE YEARS TO COMPETE WITH FOREIGN CARS NOT TO MENTION REDUCE DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL. THE CHEVY VOLT WILL ADDRESS BOTH AND PUT CHEVY BACK ON TOP WHERE IT BELONGS! PLEASE MAKE THIS CAR AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. IF IT’S MORE EXPENSIVE THAN AN EQUIVALENT SIZED CONVENTIONAL VEHICLE, THE PAYBACK PERIOD RESULTING FROM FUEL AND OPERATING COST SAVINGS NEEDS TO BE 3 YEARS TOPS OR IT WON’T MOTIVATE THE AVERAGE CONSUMER TO LAY OUT THE EXTRA CASH. CARS LIKE THE PRIUS WOULD TAKE UPWARDS OF 8 YEARS TO DO THAT, SO UNLESS YOU’VE GOT THE EXTRA CASH, WHERE’S THE MOTIVATION?
Kelly Holman
My family has been GM loyal for years, but decreasing fuel mileage and quality in your vehicles drove us elsewhere…and the last vehicle we purchased was not GM. It makes me very sad, and I felt like a traitor, but frankly I was really upset about the entire California EV incident…so GM had lost credibility with me (even though it wasn’t entirely your fault).
As a young adult studying geology in university, I’ve really opened up my eyes as to just how bad the environment has gotten, and what we can do to save it. What we need is EXACTLY THIS…the pros of electric technology MASSIVELY outweigh the cons, if there are any to begin with.
If you produce this car (please please PLEASE), my family would snatch it up in a heartbeat. It meets all of our needs, and frankly we are sick and tired of being dependent on dirty oil. PLEASE!!! Or at least try it out in Canada! But frankly, your stock losses for 2006 show that people aren’t going to tolerate inaction any more. THANK YOU for realizing the mistake you made, and please make the Volt available in Canada!!! ASAP!
Become the North American automaker leader in alternative technologies! Of course it will take a little while to get the infrastructure going, but once you do…THINK OF THE BENEFITS! You will lead the industry in clean technologies, AND YOU CAN SLEEP AT NIGHT TOO! Mass-producing these would get the costs down, as you know.
So please start getting the word out now…and then just sit back and watch the positive response you get!!!
THANK YOU GM!!!!!!!!!!!

Hurry up and get this gorgeous car into production! My first car was a ‘66 Impala Supersport and I sold it when it was 20 years old then bought my first new car, a Pontiac Grand Am. I gave that to my sister when it was 13 years old. I gave up both cars reluctantly and I would gladly go back to GM for a car of this kind. I would love to see you be a leader again. My grandfather worked there and we always had Chevys in the family when I was growing up. I’d love to be able to drive that car and feel young again!!
Tim Kufner
It’s about time someone steps up to the plate and makes a car that has the ability to make such a big impact on the environment, economy, and the pocket book of the average worker. I just hope beyond hope that Chevrolet doesn’t back down when the heat is on from the oil industry and the government as a result of the oil industry not wanting something out there starting a new age of highly fuel economical vehicles.
Jim
I’ve never bought a GM car, but I will be the first in line when the Volt hits the showroom. Just make it affordable.
joe
Great idea, i’m definitely interested. If we’re really looking to reduce our CO2 emissions & petroleum dependencies, Chevy should provide a “package” for Volt buyers, maybe including a Solar Charging Array from United Solar Ovonics (Auburn Hills, MI), “green power” from DTE or municipal solid waste handlers. This would increase R&D, manufacturing, and jobs in Michigan, foster relationships between complimentary Michigan based businesses, and maybe even turn all this garbage we recieve from Canada into a resource we can use ….
Joe
We are ready to replace our ‘02 Cavalier, and this Volt is at the top of the list. Please build this car, and do it before Toyota has one on the market that matches the Volts looks and appeal.
D J Vollendorf
Finally! An American electric car - that is the next car this family of three drivers will purchase. The Toyota Prius is overpriced and doesn’t get adequate mileage for its high ticket price. Electricity is everywhere and cheap, and the Volt provides an exciting option to costly and polluting petrochemical fuels. I hope the Volt will be put into production soon. We are definitely interested in purchasing an American electric car. GM, please help make this happen.
Thanks,
D J
Rachel
Absolutely amazing. I love it. Will definitely want it.
D Heade
I will buy one if the price isn’t to high.
José Miranda
This car is beautifull. I hope you produce it like it´s on image and sell it on Portugal. I will buy one. Thank you.
LT
I thought I would never buy a GM car again. However, if GM makes the Volt, I’ll buy it.
Jeff
Produce the Volt, then I will become a GM customer. GM has a responsibility to lead this world technological change.
I now own a Prius and a Civic Hybrid. I have a Solar powered home and am ready to generate my own power for transportation.
Electric power to move vehicles created via Solar/ wind/ tidal is critical to the long-term sustainability of the planet. Burning oil to move vehicles is a bad idea. The idea that it is OK that oil will last 100 years is irresponsible. We will need it for a long time to make, plastics, medicine, other…..
If one thing could be done to lower the probability of war, it would be to stop burning oil. If you think that is wrong, consider what will happen when China and India become fully developed. The need for oil in these two countries will exceed all other countries and spur competition for remaining reserves that will rise to conflict as the oil runs out.
Make the car now! Start to convert all your other vehicles. The technology change will inspire education, create jobs, strengthen the economy, clean the air, reduce carbon dioxide and make the world safer.
Doug Davis
I can’t wait for this. I wish the Volt was here now. The only thing I would like to see changed would be the # of electric only miles.
Tim Brazell
This car is sweat. You have to put this car on the market, I would love to buy.
Desmond Shackleton
As a retired Electrical Engineer, I reckon that you have hit the optimum design concept for the next 50 years, if not more. The flexibily for utilising a variety of supplementary fuels including fuel cells is brilliant. When can I order one for the European market?
Orlando Jerez
This is a great concept the bigest question I have is When will be available? lets get it our so we can use it. If it was on the market I will buy on today.
Orlando
James Ross
Will definitely buy one. Just let me know when they go on sale and I will write you a check!!
PS: make the tech manuals available, also make Eflex generator modules available separately. Ideal for enthusiasts to tweak, and would be an AWESOME standby generator for your house!
Art C
Make the Volt available immediately, even if the technology is not ready for prime time.
The batteries and other engineering segments be produced in a modular fashion ,so that as technology improves those parts can be replaced/modified. I am ready for this car right now.
Vero Beach
Let’s get this to market!! When can I buy????
Eli Mak
Start selling them now.
JR
GM’s gonna mis-manage this again
- take a look at current models offered, then add the extras like air bag curtains for ALL seats. Add a easily accessible HEPA air filter for all the fumes from other cars.
- Hire somebody with some style sense for the body, who do you think is gonna buy this car, somebody looking for a Ferrari
- make a model with a pickup short box for people that want to haul stuff
- look at this as a family’s second car
GGGGG
I want one
Tom Macey
When can I buy one? It would be great if you designed it so you could retrofit the Lithium Ion batteries when they become available.
Not crazy about the styling. Get the boys from Saab to help with the body design
ERNESTO RAMONEDA
WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!
JUST BUILD IT!!!!!!!!!!
STS
You build a good looking, reasonably priced electric vehicle and I WILL buy one!! The Volt is a sharp looking car…price??
Linda Burgos
I have been waiting for this car for a long time. Send this car to market ASAP. I will buy one.
Ryan
I currently own a 2004 Civic Hybrid and its great but would love to have an American built plug in like the Volt. Sign me up! Lets end our use of foreign oil. Bring our boys home.
GS
The EV1 was canceled because it only got 70 miles per charge? Then why introduce a car the gets 40 mile per charge? That doesn’t make any sense.
MCA
If you build it, we will buy one. Especially because in addition to the hybrid, we also have an E85 station in our neighborhood. However, it is especially ugly. It probably wouldn’t stop us from buying it because we buy cars on ethics, not on looks, but it is a big drawback. The front end isn’t bad looking, but the giant wheels look like the “rims” that young men put on their cars and the side windows are too small. The car is not appealing to families with kids, which is who should be buying it to reduce our emissions as we drive to dance, soccer, after school concerts, etc. You don’t have to make it boring (i.e. styling it like an Impala), but just cut down on the ugliness factor a bit. Also, don’t sacrifice safety. Make sure it comes with everything like curtain airbags for ALL seats, traction control, ABS and stability control. These are also important features to mainstream America.
Bob
I am especially looking forward to an all electric version. One that runs on E85 would be fine.
Wendy
When is this available for purchase? Can’t wait!
Lance
Finally, an approach that puts current and feasible technology to work to address our oil addiction. If 70% of drivers commute less than 40 miles each day then driving the Volt could free us of the need for foreign oil overnight. Let’s stop waiting for the perfect fuel cell vehicle or the hydrogen economy to become reality and let’s get started today with a workable electric plug-in. The infrastructure is in place (if your reading this you have access to electricity) we only need to be able to purchase this wonderful vehicle. Where do I sign up to get on the list of early adopters?
Rick
The Volt is(will be) the smartest thing GM has ever done! I will not buy another new car unless I can plug it in. The Volt will be my top choice - so far. Come on GM, make an electric SUV!!
Sarah Buck
What an amazing vehicle! I cannot wait for the release. It is wonderful to see technology working to support our environmental future - and save me money at the same time! When is it availible for purchase???
Katy
Not only good for the earth, but good for GM–maybe the Volt will put GM back on top!
Kevin
I believe this car will put GM
back on top. I’ll buy one when it comes out.
Janessa Jones
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!
clyde lindsey
build the thing already!
K Brenner
An electric car will be my next new vehicle, but GM needs to tap into battery technology and get this project going. Please commit to a date. I want a 2009 Chevy Volt. I’d put a payment down on one right now. If GM doesn’t do it, someone else will.
Drew
I would buy it today if it were available…
Jonathan McMills
Wow! Good looking and green. You have my vote. Make America proud.
Dan
At first look I say SOLD. How far off is this from production and if you need volunteers to test… PICK ME!!
brian
This is the type of vehicle that will mark the turning point in our struggle to end our petrolem addiction. Consumers are ready for an alternative to foriegn oil, and all the bad things that come with it (price instability and war to name a few). It is high time we consumers are presented with options when paying for energy for our automobiles. Please make the Volt a reality. If you build it, we (buyers) will come.
c
When will the Volt be out to buy? And how much will it be sold for?
Jack K.
GM. I’m waiting. The world is waiting. You can do it. You must do it. We’r
